White woman who attacked black singer for Trayvon Martin song won’t face hate crime

Dinalynn Andrews Potter

Dinalynn Andrews-Potter, 43, attacked 72-year-old singer Lester Chambers because he dedicated a song to Trayvon Martin. According to reports by Mercery News, Chambers was singing Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready” during a music festival on July 13.

When Chambers told the crowd that he was dedicating the song to Trayvon Martin, Andrews-Potter rushed the stage and attacked the crooner. Chambers fell to the ground as Andrews-Potter pummeled him. Several men pulled Andrews-Potter away and she was later arrested. Chambers had to be rushed to the hospital.

Chambers’ family insisted that Andrews-Potter’s attack was racially motivated and called for her to be charged with a hate crime. However, the Alameda County D.A. only charged her with felony assault and felony abuse.

Chambers, a member of the ’60s group The Chambers Brothers, will be inducted in the R&B Hall of Fame this year.
