Another Trayvon Martin? Unarmed Florida teen killed for playing music too loudly

Jordan Russell Davis killed

A unarmed 17-year-old Florida teen is drawing comparisons to Trayvon Martin today after a white gun collector fatally shot him for playing music too loudly. Police report that Michael David Dunn, 45, parked beside a sport utility vehicle occupied by Davis and three other young men last Friday in Jacksonville. After telling Davis and his friends to turn down their music, Dunn exchanged words with Davis, who was in the back seat, and opened fire. He would later tell police that he felt threatened. His attorney has since claimed that Dunn spotted a shotgun in the vehicle and shot in self-defense. No weapon was found in the vehicle.

Like Davis, Trayvon Martin was a black 17-year-old Florida teen who was unarmed when he was shot and killed. His killer George Zimmerman is currently out on bond and expected to stand trial in the summer of 2013. Like Dunn, Zimmerman said he was scared for his life when he murdered the teen and is hoping that Florida’s Stand Your Ground law will help clear him. -danielle canada
