Junior One Hundred Class of 2012 and their escorts

Ted Shaw, former director-counsel and president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, delivered the keynote address at One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York’s 2012 Education and Scholarship Awards Ceremon Fifteen college-bound students were recognized. Shaw, a Columbia Law School Professor, is one of the nation’s leading voices in civil rights.

The ceremony, which was held at NASDAQ, honored the achievements of Eagle Academy graduates for their academic performance and community involvement.

Fitzgerald Miller, the recently elected president of One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York, opened the ceremony. New York State Sen. Eric Adams was there to congratulate the students.

It’s been eight years since the One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York founded New York City’s first single gender schools, The Eagle Academy for Young Men in the Bronx.  There are locations in Brooklyn and Queens, each with a focus on academic excellence, leadership and character development.  –yvette caslin
