CVS Pharmacy’s Project Health is in full swing at metro area locations. April is National Minority Health Month and CVS Pharmacy, the nation’s leading retail pharmacy, has lined up free health screenings at select stores in African American and Latino communities in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., throughout the month of April.

The wellness program is expected to deliver more than $21 million worth of free health screenings to multicultural communities throughout 2012.

“We [CVS] are committed to putting people on a path to better health,” offers Dawn-Marie Gray, CVS’ multicultural senior marketing manager.

Upon entering the CVS stores while the Project Health screenings are underway, every Thursday through Saturday in April, customers are invited to have a blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, and BMI screening (fasting for four hours is recommended for more accurate screening results). “There is a free consultation with a health care professional, including a physician’s assistant or a nurse practitioner,” explains Cherrelle Pinckney during a media tour at Atlanta’s Campbellton Road store, which was quite busy with residents popping in to take advantage of this free, no appointment necessary opportunity to assess their health.

“This event is open to everyone,” shares Andre Mackey, a CVS pharmacist. “CVS is addressing economic disparities by making health care accessible to all.”
