Flesh-Eating Infection Spreads to New Victims: 4 Ways to Protect Yourself and Family
The flesh-eating bacteria, Aeromonas hydrophila, that nearly killed Aimee Copeland and caused her to undergo several amputations has been contracted by another man. Bobby Vaughn, 33, of Cartersville, Ga. became the third person within a month to contract the infection after getting a small cut near his groin area while doing yard work.
Vaughn began experiencing a fever, weakness and vomiting before the small cut turned into a bump that eventually swelled to the size of a grapefruit. He was forced to undergo five surgeries.
Along with Vaughn and Copeland, new mom Lana Kuykendall of Greenville, S.C. had to undergo seven surgeries after the infection was discovered.
Although the infections can attack rapidly by destroying skin, fat and muscle tissue, there are several ways to protect yourself and family.
