George Zimmerman defense team trashing Trayvon Martin’s character

Trayvon Martin’s character was being summarily assassinated postmortem by the desperate defense team of George Zimmerman. In an effort to paint a portrait of a wayward and dangerous adolescent, Zimmerman’s defense have employed the following unscrupulous tactics against a dead teenage boy in order to get their client exonerated of a murder conviction:

  • Zimmerman’s team released pictures that were in Trayvon’s cell phone.
  • The defense shows photos of Trayvon with no shirt on, a wife beater and gold teeth.
  • They also have pictures of marijuana plants and a picture with a hand holding a gun.
  • Zimmerman’s defense also released his private text messages discussing getting into fights and his mother wanting him to go live with his father as a result of a school suspension.

Trayvon Martin pretty much had the cell phone of a ordinary teen-aged boy. There’s nothing ominous or heinous here. He took pictures like most red tweens in America do and ranted about his parents being sorta wack or mad at him. If we were to gather up all the phones of good high school kids across this nation, we would find a whole lot of the same, and probably worse.

The attorneys for Trayvon, according to the Huffington Post, countered Zimmerman’s appalling strategy with this statement:

“The photos and texts were irrelevant to the trial and could pollute the jury pool. Is the defense trying to prove Trayvon deserved to be killed by George Zimmerman because (of) the way he looked? If so, this stereotypical and closed-minded thinking is the same mindset that caused George Zimmerman to get out of his car and pursue Trayvon, an unarmed kid who he didn’t know.”

Moreover, while it remains illegal to experiment with marijuana in most states, that act not does equate to being a an incorrigible kid. The last three presidents of the United States — Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama — all admitted to at least experimenting with drugs, though Clinton claims he did not inhale, while Bush even delved into cocaine at one time in his 20s. They turned out alright, it seems.
