For the latest contribution to the artistic series of Hennessy V.S. Limited Edition bottles, the world’s top-selling cognac brand enlisted support of renowned American contemporary artist Shepard Fairey. Inspired by the elegance, tradition, and smoothness of Hennessy cognac, Fairey created a signature bottle design reminiscent of his globally lauded contemporary art.

The partnership between Fairey and Hennessy is truly a bond of passion for craftsmanship, detail in design and consistent excellence. The cognac has a history of collaborating with artists —this partnership makes the fourth.

With bold striking colors and nods to Fairey’s and Hennessy’s rich histories, this latest edition is a true visual homage to Hennessy’s mantra, “Never stop. Never settle.”

Yesterday, Fairey lead an intimate roundtable discussion of a select few media representatives at Block 37, located in downtown Chicago, to discuss the bottle’s design and how the partnership came about. Fairey notes that discussion of the partnership began a few years ago, but unfortunately did not have the time to commit to the project then.

“I’m really  proud to be associated with Hennessy because the quality of Hennessy as a brand is remarkable … I had no idea how artistic and labor intensive [making cognac is],” said Fairey.

Inspired by the marginalized and underground skate culture of Providence, Rhode Island and the elite art communities of the Rhode Island School of Design, Fairey quickly developed his own aesthetic. Since then, he has continued to push the boundaries of his art and challenge fans through a visually stunning, unique style. His work has evolved into an acclaimed body of art, which includes the 2008 “Hope” portrait of Barack Obama, which can be found in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait gallery.

“One of the things about working with Hennessy that I found so amazing  is, every step of the way they said, ‘we want to give you a showcase to  show what you do in a way you’re proud of’ … I thought, I should think not as a prima donna artist but as an artist and designer … how I can bring my sensibility as an artist make this work with the sensibility of Hennessy as a brand as both a really strong design [and] art piece,” Fairey continued.
