Police kill teen, witness says Kimani Gray's hands were empty

Two plainclothes police officers shot and killed 16-year-old Kimani Gray late on March 9, on a Brooklyn, N.Y., street after he adjusted his waistband suspiciously.

Kimani’s sister, Mahnefah Gray, said that a witness told her it was this “suspicious” waistband adjusting that caused the police to shoot and kill her brother.  She and otherswho knew Kimani never knew him to have a gun. Kimani’s cousin, Malik Vernon, insisted Kimani didn’t own a gun.  According to another witness Kimani said “Please don’t let me die.” One of the officers replied, “Stay down, or we’ll shoot you again.”

Now, according to the New York Daily News after two nights of continuous protests, witnesses are coming forward to contradict the NYPD’s version of events. Tishana King allegedly witnessed the Kimani Gray shooting from her apartment window Saturday, and the Brooklyn resident is saying that the teen did not have a gun in his hands, contradicting police reports saying he aimed a .38-caliber pistol at officers.
