West Nile Virus Cases Soar: 5 Symptoms to Look For

The U.S. is facing the largest outbreak of the West Nile virus in history, one that’s left 43 people dead from a seemingly harmless insect bite. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the disease is spreading farther, faster and earlier in the season than ever before as seemingly harmless mosquitoes continue to infect humans. So far, the state hardest hit by the virus is Texas where 586 cases have been reported. Of those cases, 21 of those infected died. If you’ve been infected by West Nile, there’s an 80 percent chance that you will experience no symptoms and your body will flush out the virus on its own. There’s a 2o percent chance, however, that you could experience telltale signs of a person infected by this virus. Here are five symptoms to look for with the West Nile virus. –danielle canada
