Mother’s Day Gift Leads to Murder

It’s better to give than to receive seems to always ring true, unless of course, the gift you give isn’t quite up to par. A Texas man died Sunday after police say his fiancée became enraged over a Mother’s Day gift she felt wasn’t lavish enough. Paige Parkerson, 20,  has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Clifton “JR” Barkin, the 22-year-old father of her two children and the man she was set to marry. Police were called to the couple’s home after Barkin’s mother, Eva Wright, reported a bizarre phone call she received from Parkerson. “Paige told me that she killed JR,” she told the Beaumont Enterprise. “That he was dead.” Authorities later found Barkin’s body. He suffered multiple stab wounds.

Wright would later reveal that she helped her son pick out the fatal Mother’s Day gift; flowers and a card from Walmart. The mother is adamant that her son was murdered because Parkerson was unsatisfied with the ‘lowly’ combination. She is currently being held at a Jefferson County jail on $75,000 bond.
