The Good: The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, a night to celebrate television’s biggest stars, was hosted by funnyman Jimmy Kimmel during a live webcast from Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The script for the evening was completely quirky, and this writer must admit engaging, even with Tracy Morgan passed out onstage and Kimmel ejecting his parents from the theater for unfulfilled words of encouragement while he was growing up. It’s the first-ever Emmy Awards that I’ve watched nearly to the end.

The Bad: What can’t be ignored in this red carpet rundown is the less than colorful red carpet, in more ways than one.

After taking an aerial snapshot of the red carpet, noticeably absent were black actresses. Perhaps the Emmy producers will consider adding another category for reality television drama, in addition to the categories for reality talent competition, because that seems to be where we are getting the most opportunities and leaving indelible marks.

If we’re really trying to give credit where credit is due, Kerry Washington, by far was a petite powerhouse on ABC’s “Scandal,” who is more than deserving of an Emmy win. Perhaps, she should have oopsed her name in the batch when she co-hosted the nominations announcement alongside Kimmel.  Also, 2012 Golden Globe winner Idris Elba for his role in BBC America’s “Luther” should have gone home with a golden statue. In addition to his insatiable good looks, his performance is magnetic.

But, I digress.

The Dayum!: Whether it’s the Oscars, the Grammys or the Emmys, the red carpet undoubtedly is where actresses establish their fashion cred. Hands down, Heidi Klum was the spark of this year’s competition. But, check out who else auditioned for the undocumented-but-coveted best dressed title. Hayden Panettiere was a close second to Klum.
