We’ve heard of weave techniques like the sew-in, clip-in, quick weave and glue-in, but now there’s a new kid on the block … the braidless sew-in. The braidless sew-in is a new technique that stylists are beginning to pick up, described exactly how it sounds, a sew-in with no braids.

The braidless sew-in is said to eliminate bulkiness throughout the hair, leaves no lumps or bumps, and gives more flexibility with styling as far as putting your hair up into an updo style and a high, flat ponytail without any visible extensions. Because your hair is not braided down, there is more breathing room for the scalp, which allows thorough cleansing when washing your hair.

According to LaTonya Saunderson, founder and co-Owner of The Weave Shop, the ideal candidate for the braidless sew-in is someone with five inches of hair or more. The sew-in will last about six to eight weeks depending on how fast your natural hair grows, and a full head takes around four hours to do, which is pretty standard time for a sew-in.

How does the hair stay in without a braid and without glue you ask? Saunderson gives a quick demonstration on the technique at The Weave Shop to show you how it’s done. You can click this link to watch more.

If you love getting extensions, but hate the braiding process, the braidless sew-in may be the perfect route to take. Need help with deciding which hair to purchase before you go?
