Earlier this month, R. Kelly claimed that he was inspired to divorce his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly, after watching the film The Notebook and realizing their marriage wasn’t as strong as the love between the fictional stars of the film. But in a new interview, Andrea finally addressed her ex-husband’s claims and said his expectations were unrealistic.

“Nobody’s marriage is The Notebook. It’s a movie,” Andrea said during a recent interview on “Bethenny.”

Andrea went on to say that Kelly foolish to compare their real-life marriage, and all that it takes to make it work, to that of a fictional romance.

“I live in the real world. So to me, marriage is work. It’s hard times. It’s difficult. It’s happy. It’s sad.  There are ups and downs. So, until you find me a movie that can do that in two hours, don’t base your relationship off of a movie,” she said.

Andrea has previously said that she and Kelly no longer talk, and so she concluded that she’ll never know why he made such claims about The Notebook.

“I don’t know what he meant by that because I’m not in his head. I have no idea,” Andrea said.

Well, Andrea and Kelly certainly weren’t the only Hollywood couple who saw their fairy-tale love turn into a nightmare. Check out some other celebrity bad romances below. –nicholas robinson

Usher and Tameka Foster

Usher and Tameka Foster Raymond divorced in 2009, under not-so-pleasant circumstances, but the real drama heated up a few weeks ago when Tameka accused Usher of being a drug user and demanded full custody of their two sons.

I think its a bit presumptuous for Andrea to say that because The Notebook wasn’t real, Robert crediting it to their marital demise holds no merit. First of all, contrary to what the media portrays, their are still some very strong relationships in this world. Yes, in today’s marriages the love can and sometimes does get diluted, but for those who want, believe, live and breathe the sanctity of marriage, the story of The Notebook is very real.

There was an older couple not long ago who were injured in a car wreck together. They were rushed to the hospital and laid side-by-side in the ER, They held each others hand the whole time they were in the Emergency Room. Soon after the husband died. The wife was still holding his hand. Despite all signs of obvious death, moments later the husband had a heart beat. The doctors were amazed, but confused until they figured out that the husband’s heart beat was actually the wife’s heart beat beating from her hand to his. Shortly after, she too died.

When interviewed, the children said that that was just how strong their love was and that one could’ve never lived without the other.

With that said, I refuse to believe that love is dead and that a black man today can’t possess the qualities men of yesteryear possessed. Perhaps Andrea, you simply were not the one and Robert,  after watching this movie came to that realization. Perhaps the story tapped into his subconscious mind and made him remember what life, love and the pursuit of happiness was really all about. Whatever the case, don’t dare say that the story wasn’t real. It was and still is very real for that time and this year. Filled with great struggles and battles and distance and discernment, miscommunication and misunderstandings. There were fights and infidelities, lies and indiscretions, arguments and alterations, love and saddness. And last time I checked, all those things and more are still very relevant in relationships today.

Just accept that you weren’t his storybook ending and live your life happily ever after.
