Legendary actor Al Pacino was in the middle of an unprecedented five-year run of Academy Award nominations as he got an Oscar nod for Serpico (which was sandwiched by nominations for The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon and … And Justice for All). Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” The Wings’ “My Love” and Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” were among the year’s greatest music hits.
