Court dismisses several sexual abuse cases against Kevin Clash

Kevin Clash has had one of the most talked about TV downfalls when his longtime career as the voice of “Sesame Street’s” Elmo character came to an end in 2012 after he was accused by several men of sexually abusing them when they were still minors.

According to RadarOnline, the United States Court of Appeals dismissed the cases of three alleged victims, Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadii, and a man only identified as “S.M.,” who claimed they were sexually abused by Clash more than 10 years ago. Clash, however, has maintained that it was consensual sex between adults.

The three men originally had their cases thrown out by a New York judge last July, claiming that the young men filed their lawsuits after the six-year statute of limitations. The three men subsequently brought their cases to the Court of Appeals, claiming that they didn’t realize the extent of their psychological damage until 2012.

However, court documents show that the Court of Appeals argued that the three men “failed to provide any reason why [they] were unable to discover their injuries prior to 2012,” adding that they found their arguments to be “without merit.”

However, Clash isn’t out of the hot water just yet. He still faces a lawsuit from Pennsylvania man Sheldon Stephens, who filed suit against Clash in March 2013, claiming that the Elmo puppeteer smoked crystal meth while he molested him when he was just 16. Clash may not fare as well in Pennsylvania, where the statute of limitation laws are more relaxed.  –nicholas robinson
