Dick Gregory calls Spike Lee a ‘thug’ and ‘punk’ for criticizing ‘Django’
Legendary comedian Dick Gregory exploded on filmmaker Spike Lee for having the audacity to criticize the movie Django without going to see the slavery-based film by Quentin Tarantino. Gregory then bashes Lee for some of the films he’s made in the past.
Gregory praised Tarantino for making the motion picture epic that stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kerry Washington. Then he went totally volcanic about Lee for denouncing Django.
“That little thug didn’t even go see the movie,” Gregory exclaimed in an interview at a bookstore recently. And he was just getting revved up.
“How are you going to attack this man? … Well, it offended my ancestors when you made She Got to Have It and those other thug movies you did,” Gregory said, kicking it into another gear. “You took Malcolm X and put a zoot suit on him, a red hat on him. Did that offend your ancestors, punk?”
Gregory, who has long been known for his acid-tinged tongue, continued to perform invasive surgery on Lee. See what else he had to say.
