Fantasia slams gay marriage: 'The world's gone mad ... gay marriage is legal'

For years, Fantasia has been one of R&B’s biggest gay icons, performing at Gay Pride events across the nation and commanding a legion of gay and bisexual fans. But last night, Fantasia shocked the world when she complained about the state of the world and slammed the nation’s growing acceptance of gay marriage.

The drama all began Sunday, Dec. 30, when Fantasia posted an Instagram photo of herself with a message lashing back at her critics and simultaneously criticizing the world for what she considered its ills, including marijuana and gay marriage.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERNMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!! Its a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!” Fantasia wrote.

It’s surprising that Fantasia would take such a stance against gay marriage, considering that a large portion of her fans are gay or bisexual. And considering Fantasia’s sordid past surrounding her highly-scrutinized relationship with married man Antwaun Cook, her controversial pregnancy with him and, sadly, her own mental health issues, it’s understandable that she would feel like a victim of the media and would want to be free of all of the criticism.

However, it’s sad that in her attempt to regain her own power, she felt the need to become the same critical villain she felt she was freeing herself from and ultimately tried to strip the LGBT community of their rights, their dignity and their power. Clearly, Fantasia’s version of a life free of haters only exists in a world where compassion and empathy for others is limited and she is the only one who can pass judgment and hate. How sad for her.

Thankfully, there are several other gay icons who don’t share her opinion. Check them out below. – nicholas robinson
