Janet Hubert & Wendy Williams

Janet Hubert has never been shy about her beef with Wendy Williams and that she thinks the gossip queen is a so-called “virus” among black women. But in a recent interview with thegrio.com, Hubert expounded upon her issues with black women in TV and called Williams and other women “jiggaboos” and “mammies.”

While chatting with thegriot.com, Hubert discussed her unique health issues that have kept her from working (intense spasms, debilitating episodes of vertigo and a ‘strange chattering’ of her jaw, to name a few) and her struggle with being branded a villain in the industry.

According to Hubert, she’s been mislabeled and misunderstood, but when she was asked to give her opinion about black women in entertainment, she claimed that many of them are embarrassing and play into stereotypes about black women. Hubert also took specific aim at Williams and “The Talk” host Sheryl Underwood for being prime examples of those stereotypical women.

“We’re not even there. I see every network’s got some big fat, sort-of slightly chunky black girl. We’ve got Wendy out there who’s wearing giant ta-tas…and we’ve got Sheryl Underwood who’s sitting on the toilet on the set. We’ve got buffoons, we’ve got coons, we’ve got jiggaboos — we’ve got the new mammy. And I’m disgusted. I think the viewers are disgusted too. I think we definitely need some representation of who we are. There’s no one who represents me that I see — and it’s disheartening,” she said.

Well that’s a pretty harsh critique, but it’s not the first time that such a statement has been made about black entertainers, especially Williams. Check out some of her other major critics below. – nicholas robinson
