After years of working in television and film, JasFly decided to leave L.A. and move to New York. She soon embarked on a new career as a blogger and found success as the owner of FlyStyleLife.com. JasFly recently joined the cast of VH-1’s new hit realty show, The Gossip Game.

She spoke with rolling out about her thoughts on reality TV, staying away from negativity and the true reason she joined the show.

As a blogger and  journalist, you often get an opportunity to have an objective view on reality TV. But now you are a subject on a reality TV show. Do you fear being edited in a way that doesn’t truly represent your character?

The camera can’t show what you don’t give. Regardless on how something is edited. If I never get into a fight they can’t edit me getting into a fight. If I behave in a manner I am proud of, the chances of me being portrayed in a manner that I’m not proud of are very slim. If I am portrayed in a way that is not true to my character, then they will have had to make a really hard, concerted effort to do so.

But you have to agree that there are certain negative aspects to most reality TV shows. Was there any skepticism about actually being involved in those negative aspects of the show?

Everyone watches reality television, but there’s a weird look when it comes to doing reality television.  It’s not reality television that you all have a problem with; it’s life. Women do get into arguments, women do get into fights. We are sometimes catty and disagree with each another. So we can’t say that you’re brave for being on there. We are just showing you real sh– that happens.

On the flip side,  the show allows you to expand your brand. What is the overall goal for being a part of The Gossip Game?

I have an amazing opportunity to have a 44 minute commercial for myself and what I’m about. The show allows my brand to be broadcast to millions of people. I also want to do the show in order to tell my story. To tell people who I am and to continue to live my purpose; which for me is to teach. Now I get an opportunity to teach on TV.
