Doris Morgado stars in Studio 11 Films’ Forbidden and talked to rolling out about her career, her background and her inspirations.

Where you were born/where you were raised?
I was born in Venezuela and raised in Miami.

Zodiac Sign:
Cancer. The best sign for an actor.

Why did you take the role in Forbidden?
I took this role because the character was very emotionally demanding. I loved the idea of bringing to the scene the torture of having to make such a hard decision. I want the audience to feel that struggle. Sometimes things in life aren’t black and white.

Did you have any particular mentors or inspirations as a young actor?
My mentor and inspiration in life is my mother. She’s taught me that hard work and perseverance is the key to success. I’ve learned a lot about her that has helped my career as a person. And isn’t that what acting really is?

Your personal acting idols:
My personal acting idol is Denzel Washington. I grew up watching his work. The commitment that he gives to each character that he takes on is priceless. He’s one actor that I can’t wait to work with.

Performer you would drop everything to go see:
Denzel Washington

Favorite cities:
Miami, of course, and Atlanta

First album you owned:
Christian Castro

Moment you knew you wanted to perform for a living:
I always knew I wanted to be an actress, but never had the courage to say it out loud. I finally spoke up in 2006 when I decided to tell my husband that I didn’t want to go back to teaching because I wanted to be an actress. His response was, “Go for it.”

Worst flubbed line/missed cue/onstage mishap:
I was on the set of this very big show. It was my first one. Part of my line was to say “I didn’t do that.” Well, apparently the director didn’t like the way I was saying the word didn’t. So much so that she stopped the take eight times to correct me on that one word. I left there feeling horrible.

I spoke to a few friends after that who didn’t speak a second language to get their take on my pronunciation of this word. They all laughed and said that I didn’t mispronounce it. Crazy how one person’s bad day can make you question yourself.

Worst job you ever had:
It was selling phones at Best Buy while I was in college. I love playing by the rules and when I worked there I was constantly being taken advantage of by some of the older staff. They would take my customers and hide my things.

Career you would want if you weren’t a performer:
If I wasn’t an actress, I would be helping my parents run their accounting firm.

Three things you can’t live without:
Jesus, my family and acting
