Laurieann Gibson Discusses Split From Lady Gaga: 5 Other Controversial Splits

Music fans around the globe were shocked when it was revealed earlier this week that famed singer Lady Gaga and her choreographer/creative director Laurieann Gibson had cut business ties with each other. Since the news broke, many have speculated about the cause of the split, citing increasing tensions between the two women. But now Gibson has decided to speak out on the split and explain what really happened.

In an exclusive statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Gibson explained that, “Recently, Lady Gaga was motivated to take the helm of the creative direction of her career.” Though some reports claim that Gibson was fired, Gibson claims that she “decided to step away.”

Gibson fails to go into detail about her decision to leave the Haus of Gaga or the pop star’s new creative direction, but she doe sexplain that she’s excited about her future projects, which include her continued role as an in-house creative director at Interscope, nurturing the careers of new artists.


“I am fulfilled with the work I have done with choreographing all of the iconic moves, creative directing [of] artist, appearances, shows, directing the tour, music videos, and the HBO “Monster Ball,” which was a culmination of my work as its creator and director. Recently, Lady Gaga was motivated to take the helm of the creative direction of her career and as such I decided to step away. I am extremely proud of her, and in stepping away I wish her all the best. I look forward to continuing my work with notable artists, as well as new artists that are part of my Interscope Records deal, and the upcoming seasons of my TV shows,” said Gibson.

Gibson currently stars in the “E!” reality series “The Dance Scene” and BET’s dance competition show “Born to Dance.”
