Lil Wayne or Snoop? Who Had the Best Song of ’08?

Without further ado, here is ro’s breakdown of the best and biggest singles of the year. Let the debates begin. -boogie

Best Song: “Royal Flush” -Big Boi featuring Andre 3000 and Raekwon We don’t mean the best single according to SoundScan or Billboard. When “Royal Flush” leaked, the Internet went crazy, radio remembered why Outkast is the most innovative group in music and hip-hop heads had a reason to defend the genre again. Even though this single was never officially released, it’s generated enough momentum to make us fiend for Big Boi’s 2009 solo effort, Sir Luscious Leftfoot.the Son of Chico Dusty.
Best Love Song: “Warrick Avenue” –Duffy Who said great love songs had to be all roses and candy? Yes, this song is about love lost, and jointly wins the title of most depressing ditty of ’08, but damned if Duffy didn’t deliver on this one. And the single-shot video with the never ending tear? Dude, if you weren’t moved by that, you’re made of stone.
Best Song You Got Tired of Hearing: “Sexual Eruption” –Snoop Dogg Writer/producer, Shawty Red put his foot in this song, and Snoop took it to otherworldly levels with his funked out 70’s-honoring video. But radio absolutely killed this song.
Best Song to Freestyle On: “A Milli” –Lil Wayne We hate to state the obvious, but this song was used more than a prostitute in Vegas. Producer Shondrae “Bangladesh” Crawford gave hip-hop the most over-exposed, hyped beat of 2008. And with hip-hop’s renegade poster boy doing the honors, this baby was undeniable and inescapable.
Best Dance Song: “Green Light”- John Legend featuring Andre 3000 We dare you not to two-step, snap your fingers…something to this jam. Plus, Andre 3000 totally kills his verse.
Best Song You Slept on in ’07 but Loved in ’08: “Paper Planes” –M.I.A. Yep, this song dropped in ’07, but blew way up in ’08. It got an even bigger boost when the four biggest names in rap music—T.I., Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne– decided to deliver their swagged-out version on “Swagger Like Us.”
Best Song With a Message: “God In the Building” –Killer Mike Killa Kill from Adamsville had a busy year in ’08, and hands-down blessed the masses with one of the best rap albums of the year. “God In the Building” showcased Mike at his lyrical best.
