Bishop Noel Jones offers sage advice on caring for the mind, body and soul

Noel Jones

Bishop Noel Jones spends his time traveling the world spreading the gospel. When he can catch a break, he takes time to film for the hit Oxygen docu-series, “Preachers of L.A.,” which has returned for a second season. The pastor of City of Refuge, which has over 15,000 members, Jamaican-born Jones comes from a legacy of bishops in the Pentecostal faith.

During a recent stop in Atlanta, rolling out had the opportunity to gather some tips from Bishop Jones on how to care for the body, mind and soul.

Why is it important to eat healthy?
Your body is your temple. If you want to be physically sound, you have an obligation to it. Part of being able to give according to your purpose is having the right diet.

Why are prayer and meditation essential?
Prayer is the key to one’s communication with God as far as sharing your soul. To meditate, of course, is to muse upon the things of God, which give you revelatory experiences with God because you are meditating on his Word and you are imbibing it. You are making it a part of your psyche.

It brings forth a prayerful attitude, immediately. The Model Prayer is only 28 seconds long. It says pray without ceasing, which suggests that prayer is an attitude that you constantly carry with you on a day-to-day basis.

Love is shown in action. Is it something that should be shared freely?
Yes. There is no question that love has to be expressed. It is something that reaches out to anything and anyone who is in the image of God. There is no way that I can say that I love God, whom I have never seen, and not love his images that I see everyday. You are a reflection of God to me so I have to love you because you reflect my God. It doesn’t matter what you do or say, I have to love the reflection of God.
