Former South African President Nelson Mandela, 94, has been in the hospital for two weeks in Pretoria, S.A., fighting a lung infection. He went into cardiac arrest at his home in Johannesburg on June 8th. It’s the fourth time he has been hospitalized since December.

Mandela’s liver and kidneys are reportedly functioning at 50 percent, and he’s had to have a procedure to repair a bleeding ulcer and another one to insert a tube, according to CBS News.

A report, conflicting the one where his grandson told media on Friday, June 21 that his health was improving, reveals he hasn’t opened his eyes in days and is unresponsive. Mandela’s family members have been in discussion about whether or not this medical intervention is too much for an elderly man.

Mandela’s 95th birthday is July 18.
