Oprah Winfrey may be the nation’s favorite humanitarian, but she’s not without her detractors and critics. The billionaire mogul has endured public beefs with the likes of 50 Cent, whom she recently made peace with. But Sunday, July 29, Winfrey found herself involved in another controversy when an angry Twitter critic challenged her about her charitable efforts in the “hood.”
Around 10:00 p.m. , a Twitter user by the name of @awalkdatalk blasted Winfrey’s humanitarian efforts and questioned her on when she would lend a helping to the “hood.”
Though Winfrey typically avoids any controversy, she, surprisingly, gave a quick response and challenged the users critique.
Still not satisfied with Winfrey’s answer, @walkdatalk then criticized her for using the term African American and for her high-profile association with one of hip-hop’s biggest stars.
@Oprah but its millions of us n everybody isnt classified as african americans. Notice I said ghettos,” said the user, adding, “@Oprah @Oprah_World just cuz Jay-z came on ur show doesnt mean u helping the hood.”
Another irate user then joined in on the exchange and slammed Winfrey for her response.
Refusing to take the bait and engage in a heated Twitter battle, Winfrey shrugged off her critics’ remarks and nonchalantly rattled off some loose and impressive figures about her humanitarian achievements, both in the “hood” and abroad in Africa.
Well, Winfrey may not have said much, but clearly her successes and numbers speak for her. And like her critics’ twitter name, she’s not only talking the talk, she’s walking the walk, the walk of a drama-free humanitarian.
But Winfrey’s not the only star who’s been attacked by online fans. Check out some other Twitter tirades below. –nicholas robinson
