3. Politicians: Kwame Kilpatrick
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrickwas determined to keep his dirty sex texts with aide Christine Beatty a secret from his wife, even if it meant firing officers who knew of the affair and/or committing perjury to conceal it. Both acts blew up in his face; the fired officers successfully sued and won millions from the City of Detroit, and Kilpatrick resigned on September 4, 2008. Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to two felony counts of obstruction of justice and was sentenced to 120 days in jail, and five years of probation. He surrendered his law license and was ordered to pay $1 million in fines to the city of Detroit. Kilpatrick was released from jail in February, 2009.
