According to MTV News, in his new memoir, Soulcaster: The Diary Of Me, Kelly explains that after he and Andrea wed in 1996, they eventually began to clash because she refused to put her dance career on hold to become a stay-at-home mom to their three kids.
Though the couple managed to survive Kelly’s infamous child pornography trial, the arguments between the two increased, including one in which Andrea threw her $50,000 wedding ring into a pond in their backyard.
There were also allegations of domestic violence, and in 2005 Andrea filed an emergency protective order to keep Kelly away from her
After initially filing for divorce in 2006, the couple finally put an end to their 12-year marriage in 2009. And according to Kelly, he was the one who decided to end their marriage after watching the film about a 1940s couple who fall in and out of love over the years.
“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me,” Kelly wrote. “‘The Notebook’ was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together. But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses, that had come and gone … My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”
