Rihanna and her family suffered a horrible tragedy recently when Rih’s beloved grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite, died after a long battle with cancer. Following her “Gran Gran Dolly’s” death, Rihanna took to Twitter to mourn her loss and got a surprising tweet of “love” from her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown.
The Barabadian singer announced the death of her grandmother to her fans on June 30, posting touching photos and tweets about her grandmother.
But a major surprise came when Rihanna’s former flame, Brown, sent out a tweet sending his condolences to Rih and her family.
“Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP,” tweeted Brown.
Brown’s mother and manager, Joyce Hawkins, also tweeted some kind words to Rihanna.
“@rihanna ANGEL MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW. LOVE YOU ANGEL,” Hawkins tweeted
“@mombreezy thank you!” Rihanna replied. “Love You Angel.”
The news of Rihanna’s loss also comes as a possible explanation for her disastrous performance in Sweden earlier in the day at the Peace & Love Festival. The singer reportedly walked on stage 45 minutes late and mistakenly dedicating a cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” to Norway, prompting some fans to walk out on her show, thinking she was drunk.
Well, considering that her grandmother died, it’s understandable that Rihanna’s performance was less than stellar. Unfortunately she’s not the only star to deal with a tragic loss. Check out some celebrity family tragedies below. – nicholas robinson
