Robin Roberts Making Peace With Tragic Diagnosis: 5 Other Ailing Stars
“Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts recently revealed to the world that she’s suffering from a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, MDS, and is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to treat the disease. And though the TV anchor has clearly been devastated by her personal tragedy, she says that she’s coming to terms with her disease thanks to the many well wishes of her fans.
“My family and I are overwhelmed and comforted by the response from everyone. It really has been very comforting.” Roberts said graciously during Tuesday’s taping of “GMA,” adding that she “slept like a baby for the first time since my diagnosis.”
And Roberts has gotten some well wishes from some of the nation’s most powerful figures, including Gayle King and first lady Michelle Obama, who tweeted Roberts on behalf of her and her husband, President Barack Obama.
Sadly, this isn’t the first time Roberts has endured a life-threatening illness. In 2007, she battled breast cancer and shaved her head during chemotherapy.
To battle her new disease, Roberts will once again undergo chemotherapy, and is slated to undergo transplant surgery this fall with her sister acting as the donor.
Like, Obama and King and so many others, we wish Roberts all the best and hope she beats this disease.
