Star Jones slams Kerry Washington’s ‘Scandal’

Star Jones slams Kerry Washington's 'Scandal'

There’s just no denying that ABC’s “Scandal” is the hottest drama to hit airwaves in the past year, and with millions of people tuning in each week to watch the Kerry Washington-led series every week, the show’s popularity continues to rise. However, one person who isn’t in love with the show is Star Jones, who recently criticized Washington and series creator Shonda Rhimes over the lead character’s controversial storyline.

Last weekend, Jones vented on Twitter to air her grievances directly to Rhimes about the show’s lead character, Olivia Pope, having an affair with a white man, the president, while still in a relationship with a black man.

“??? for @shondaRhimes: Why does #OliviaPope reject fine azz Senate Maj Leader #EdisonDavis for married #POTUS w/ a pregnant wife? #Scandal,” Jones wrote. “I get POWER…I get POSITION…but @shondarhimes can the fierce powerful SINGLE sister pick the fierce powerful SINGLE brother?#scandal.”

Jones then said that she loves “Scandal,” but wishes Pope’s storyline was different.

“I love #scandal. @kerrywashington is ridiculously good…but I’d love to see #OliviaPope reject the unethical & immoral for a good brother!” wrote Jones.

As expected, Jones’ tweets caused a furor of backlash from angry fans, but surprisingly Rhimes responded to Jones the next day and explained her reasoning for writing Pope’s scandalous storyline.

“@shondarhimes: OH! Just read the tweets. Here’s answer: Because this show is not a fairy tale & Olivia is not a role model.”, wrote Rhimes, to which Jones responded, “Fair enough.”

Well, we see Jones’ point, but the show just wouldn’t live up to its name if Pope was the perfect role model and not a well-rounded character with major flaws and one gargantuan scandal under her belt.

But this isn’t the first time Jones has found herself in a scandal of her own. Check out some of Jones’ other scandals below. –nicholas robinson
