Just days before the release of her first album as a national recording artist, R&B singer, songwriter and actress Teyana Taylor carved out some time to spend with her loving and supportive Detroit fans. Taylor attended the 32nd annual “Coats for Kids” charity event hosted by local radio station FM 98.9 WJLB and the Salvation Army in an effort to raise money to purchase brand-new coats for the winter. The event was held at the Michigan Science Center on Nov. 1, 2014.

Taylor, who admits to visiting the city many times, expressed that she is aware of the extreme temperatures and harsh winters that children must endure in Detroit. Taylor joined popular Detroit radio personality Bushman and media maven and co-host of Power 105 show “The Breakfast Club,” Angela Yee for a live interview and to encourage listeners and local business owners to help support the event.

Fans quieted themselves and crowded around the barrier anticipating details of Taylor’s new album or upcoming tour dates. During her interview, Taylor managed to catch a glimpse of one of her longtime fans, which she refers to as being part of the “NeutchNation,” making her way toward the front of the crowd. A very excited Teyana exclaimed, “Oh my gosh! Is that my baby?! My baby is here,” and made her way to the front of the crowd. Taylor asked the other fans to let 19-year-old Clayshae Green through to give her a hug. Taylor met Green with a long, warm embrace and thanked her for coming to support her. Taylor then requested that security lift Green over the barriers to hang out with her while at the event and also beckoned her mother over to take pictures with Green.

A tearful and ecstatic Green reports that she loves Teyana Taylor so much that she started a Teyana Taylor fan page about two years ago. Green states that she never thought that Taylor would follow her page but has also become somewhat of a friend to her as well. Green also mentioned that she and Teyana communicate via direct messages on Twitter and Instagram and she has even spoken to Taylor’s mother and close cousin as well.

Taylor took selfie photos with fans and exchanged hugs before leaving the event and thanked Detroit fans for all of their continued support.
