What sets your salon apart from others?

We serve the community by hosting fundraising, community awareness and even political events. We seek to provide a professional and uplifting environment for our clients. … Giving our clients a great hairstyle is our service, so we train and educate ourselves for that.

What sets you apart from other stylists?

My passion. … I am a student of my craft, I study it and I know it. I love to share what I know with my clients to help them to be educated [and] informed consumers.

What are the top five maintenance dos and don’ts for hair extensions?

  1. Don’t try to stretch it past time. This is the primary cause for breakage.
  1. Shampoo regularly. Although it does loosen the braids a bit, it is good for your hair underneath and it keeps the hair flowing and bouncy.
  1. Wrap it at night and put on a silk [or] satin scarf, or sleep on a silk [or] satin pillowcase.  This keeps the hair from drying out and tangling.
  1. Don’t neglect your hair underneath the weave.
  1. Invest in high quality hair. Just because it says, “100 percent human hair” doesn’t mean that it is of good quality. Cheap hair doesn’t curl and it tends to get dry and brittle.

What are your favorite hair trends for African American women this summer?

Curls rule the world. Natural curls, wavy, or deconstructed curls are hot. Hairstyles that sport a long bang or some sort of disconnection will always turn heads and remember to take chances with hair color and fashion this summer. However, if you don’t want a fancy cut or a funky color, healthy looking hair is always in style.

What upcoming projects are you working on that our readers should know about?

Recently, Dwight Eubanks, from the “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and I partnered with the Centers for Disease Control to educate other stylist on AIDS awareness and prevention. June 27 is National HIV testing day and I will host “Shop Talk” in my salon to dialogue about HIV/AIDS and to provide testing.
