Wyclef Jean Calls Lauryn Hill a Liar, Manipulator in ‘Purpose’ Book
Wyclef Jean rips former bandmate Lauryn Hill, calling her a ‘liar’ for trying to make him believe that he was the father of her conceived child while they both were having a torrid affair.
Wyclef reveals this and much more in his explosive debut book Purpose. In it, he admits that he, Hill and his wife were in the throes of a love triangle. But when Hill allegedly tried to pin the baby on him, when the child was her boyfriend Rohan Marley’s, the magic of their illicit affair died instantly. The Fugees group that produced one of the bestselling albums in hip hop history, The Score, disbanded soon thereafter.
Married at the time of their torrid trysts, Wyclef has never been shy about admitting that he had an extramarital affair with L Boogie — and other women for that matter. “I never depicted myself as an angel,” he told rolling out in an exclusive interview in his studio in New York recently.
“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that,” he says. “She could no longer be my muse. Our love spell was broken.”
It would be a long time before the two would ever get together to record again. Hill went on and found phenomenal commercial and critical acclaim for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and Wyclef produced his solo debut, The Carnival, was also madly popular, particularly in his home country of Haiti.
