There is a new “superbug” as many people are calling it, which is actually a new strain of gonorrhea. Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a bacterium; it grows very fast in warm, wet places of the reproductive tract like the cervix or uterus. According to the CDC about 820,000 people in the United States are infected by gonorrhea each year. That is a lot of people; 570,000 of them are in between the ages of 15-24 years old. If this “superbug” or super version of gonorrhea does come to the United States, we are in big trouble with these numbers. In order to help keep you safe, here are four ways to stay protected.
