Years ago, there was a song that referred to using sex as a weapon. While that brings up some rather frightful connotations and images, using sex as a way to lose weight could actually work out to be a good thing. How many other exercises have you ever taken part in that were so exhilarating and fun?

Most of us probably don’t consider the health benefits that healthy sex can have (referring to a safe and preferably monogamous sexual relationship). Think of it this way; when you are actively engaged in the sexual act (unless you’re a bit lazy in bed), you’re getting a real workout.

Here are a few reasons that sex can help you to lose weight and have a healthier life:

1. First, and foremost, the sex act can be quite a workout for the heart. Fitness pros actively encourage people to get their heart rates up to get the blood flowing and cut down on chances of heart disease. Sex brings up the heart rate nicely for a healthy individual.

2. Sexual activity is said to decrease depression. Depression is one of the major drivers that leads to overeating; when people are depressed, they tend to eat for the comfort that food can bring and as a way of forgetting their problems.

3. Sexual activity boosts immunity. As your immunity is boosted, you are less likely to fall ill, and more likely to remain active in your day-to-day life.

4. Sexual intimacy is known to lengthen lifespan. With a healthy sex life, a person is more likely to be satisfied and less frustrated with their life, while having a stronger sense of well-being. A regular sexual routine will help to condition a person to being active.

5. While engaging in sex regularly, the body is exercised in ways that are only matched by a good trip to the gym. Sex has even been compared to having the health benefits gained from climbing several flights of stairs (something that some people can not easily do — but sex offers a lower impact aerobic workout).
