This year was the 28th Annual African Festival of the Arts in Chicago and it did not disappoint. Countries from the Diaspora gathered to celebrate all things African. This year’s festival featured local acts and industry heavy hitters. Wyclef Jean and the legendary group Heatwave closed out the last two days. Rain fell on the second day of the festival but it did not dampen spirits.

We spoke with festival goer Marshan Parks and asked her what she loves about the African Fest. “The African Festival experience was very exhilarating. I enjoyed the vendors. The performances were great! I enjoyed the festival so much that I attended two days in a row. My children enjoyed the festival as well, seeing the different African print garments and jewelry. I definitely will make attending this festival a family tradition,” she said

The African Festival is a signal that summer is coming to an end. Let’s hope it doesn’t leave too fast. Check out a few pics from the festival.
