Nas

Hip-hop author and journalist Dream Hampton created a firestorm earlier this week after tweeting that Nas hired fellow rappers Jay Electronica and Stic Man to help him pen songs on his Untitled (N-word) album.

After a fan questioned Hampton on if Jay-Z would ever create a politically charged album similar to Nas’ Untitled, Hampton responded by saying “Jay-Z writes what he believes,” and she implied that Nas used ghostwriters.

Hip-hop blogs and other Twitter users were immediately shocked by Hampton’s claim. Some believed that it was almost blasphemous to suggest one of the greatest rappers in history didn’t write his own rhymes.

However, Jay Electronica and Stic Man both denied ever writing for Nas. But while ghostwriting in hip-hop is almost forbidden, some rappers make it known that they need assistance when it comes to penning the perfect rap.

Great songs no matter who wrote them!

I thought the definition of ‘Ghostwriting’ is that the actual writer is hidden. These seem to be songs that someone else wrote for the artist. With that criteria I think Biz Markie’s ‘Vapors’ written by Big Daddy Kane should be here. Also, Tone Loc’s ‘Wild Thing’ penned by Young MC.
P.S. – When was ‘Gettin Jiggy Wit It’ a good song???

A SONG is words SUNG to a melody; a RAP is words RECITED to a BEAT, ergo; there are NO rap SONGS, but many good RAPS.
