50 Cent calls Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks ‘hype men’ for Troy Ave

50 Cent seems to get satisfaction from putting down his former G-Unit compadres and childhood friends Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks. 50 has made it clear that he no longer is close to his old buddies, and in a recent interview with MTV, he casually mocked their recent appearances on singles by Troy Ave, one of New York City’s most promising young rappers. Yayo  was a guest on “Show Me Love” and Banks made an appearance on “Your Style.”

“They actually like [Troy Ave’s] hype men now,” 50 said to New York’s Hot 97. “That’s not a shot. They’re there as the supporting cast.”

50 continues to take potshots at Banks and Yayo, but insists that he wants the best for them. He’s complained previously about what he feels is their lackadaisical attitude toward their careers. “They’re like my little brothers,” he said. “I’d like for them to work to sustain their interests in the public.”

50 also said that he believes Troy Ave’s sound owes a lot to his music.

“I like the idea of Troy Ave,” he said. “I would want it to work. Just because I want something to happen in the city, period. But in reality, I hear a lot of me in Troy Ave.”
