50 Cent nixes G-Unit reunion

Any hopes that G-Unit fans had of a reunion between 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo were dashed to bits by Fiddy himself in a recent interview. Many G-Unit artists appeared at a show in Puerto Rico earlier this month, which drove up speculation that the crew would be reuniting to record. But 50 Cent says don’t hold your breath.

He isn’t interested at all in reconnecting with his former comrades. When he was asked about it directly on Sirius Hip Hop Nation, his answer was crystal clear.

“Probably not,” 50 said.

“I don’t know. You have people who go in different directions,” he explained, referencing Banks and Yayo. “If you have grown men involved in business transactions or are around each other, surrounded by the same thing, I’ve offered everything that I can offer to G-Unit. I allowed them to be in front of my audience the entire time, to develop their own fan base, to have people recognize their attributes and their defects at that point. What do you do? I don’t care what other people want. I could give a f–k what they want. A reunion? You can kiss my motherf—ing a– as far as that’s concerned. I think when you get to the point when you want something, the public is saying something, it’s a trend, it’s an idea that someone had and that other people are following.”

50 has mentioned before that he felt like he cared more about working hard for Banks’ and Yayo’s careers than they did. And he again made it sound like his two childhood friends got spoiled and lazy with success. Success, that he not-so-subtly points out, had a lot to do with their association with 50 Cent.

“When did it dissolve? It dissolved when they didn’t start to support the projects,” says Fif. “I think the concept of reunions come from artists that have decided to not be under me, they realize how hard it is away from me, when you get to the point where you’re not generating any interest any more and your records and coming and going so fast, you don’t matter as much. [Then] you go, ‘We need to do a reunion.'”

50 Cent recently pushed back his long-delayed album, Street King Immortal, to late spring.
