In partnership with Life/Red Associated Labels, BET and Music Matters will launch a compilation album on June 23 in support of the second annual BET Experience from June 27-29.

The album, BET Presents Music Matters Vol. 1. features original music from the likes of Big Sean, Marsha Ambrosious and newcomer, Curtis Fields.

The Music Matters project serves as an initiative providing exposure to budding, groundbreaking talent across BET and Centric. You probably remember Fields performing at the BET Awards last summer. The former Fisk Jubilee singer combined his love of music and savviness in technology to record a studio-quality song, entirely from an iPhone. The apps, iShred and GuitarStudio led him to become the first artist to sign a major record deal by playing guitar on his smartphone.

“I am so excited to see my music getting recognition and in such good company,” said Fields. “I’d like to work with Melanie Fiona or J. Cole. I think it’d be crazy!”

Fields’ track, “Under The Covers” was co-written with Rock City and produced by Co-Captains. According to the Arkansas native, the track reflects on personal moments not often seen by the public.

“The sentiment of the song is that we pay so much attention to other people and their judging eyes, but for these intimate moments there’s no one there but us,” he said.

The “son forever on the altar” is currently performing and working on his new EP — picking the lead single. A new music release can be expected in the near future.
