Big Boi Learns His Fate as a Result of Legal Challenges
Big Boi is one lucky emcee. After being arrested in Florida on drug charges last month, the OutKast lyricist recently reached a plea deal with prosecutors, allowing him to avoid any jail time.
According to the Associated Press, Big Boi appeared in a Miami court on Oct. 13 to work out the deal with prosecutors, which requires him to undergo three months of drug testing, do community service and donate $2,000 to charities. If Big Boi remains drug free throughout the three months of test, the drug charges will be dismissed.
Big Boi’s legal dramas began in August when he was arrested while getting off a cruise ship and K-9 dogs alerted police to drugs that Big Boi was carrying. The drugs included substances included ecstasy, a cigarette roller with marijuana residue, the ecstasy ingredient MDMA and Viagra. Big Boi was subsequently charged with three counts of a controlled substance and another count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
At the time of his arrest, Big Boi’s lawyer, Daniel Kane, released a statement, confidently explaining that his client would be cleared of all charges.
“While Big Boi was traveling with his group and friends, a small amount of contraband was found in the collective luggage. I am confident when the entire facts are aired Big Boi will be completely exonerated,” he said.
According to Reuters, Big Boi’s defense attorney, Richard Hersch, said the Atlanta rapper was eligible for the plea deal because of his clean record and the fact that he doesn’t have a problem with drug addiction.
“There’s no admission of guilt that is involved with it,” said Hersch.
Hopefully, Big Boi will stay out of trouble and avoids going down the same tumultuous path of fellow Atlanta rapper T.I. – nicholas robinson
