It’s been 17 years since the tragic murder of Christopher Wallace, better known as hip-hop legend the Notorious B.I.G. Every year on March 9, the date that the rapper was gunned down in Los Angeles in 1997, fans pay tribute to the fallen artist, but in his home of Brooklyn, N.Y., there as a special sense of pride and honor for the man known as Biggie Smalls. Fans in Biggie’s Bed-Stuy community visited the Bishop gallery on Bedford to view artwork inspired by and hear music from the late rap star.

“It’s important for us to help celebrate Biggie because with everything that’s going on in Bed-Stuy as far as gentrification, it’s important to preserve our culture,” explains Bedford manager/owner, Irwin “E” John. “We think it’s important to honor that.”
