Chris Lighty’s Funeral Attended by Music Luminaries

As previously reported, Chris Lighty of Violator Management fatally shot himself in late August outside his New York city home. Police believe the 43-year-old father of five may have been under tremendous financial pressure and was at odds with his estranged spouse.
Today, Sept. 5, celebrities turned out in droves to a Manhattan funeral home where Lighty’s open casket service was held. Russell Simmons, Fat Joe, Q-Tip, Rev. Run, Missy Elliott, Michael Bivens, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill. and Ed Lover were all in attendance. Also on hand was reality show producer Mona Scott-Young as, well as Gayle King, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes.
Rapper Maino gave the New York Daily News a somber quote on the ceremony. “He was somebody that gave me advice,” said the Brooklyn, N.Y. emcee. “I don’t like to see this. I don’t like to see families like this. We’re talking about a legend. He helped artists become superstars and moguls.”
Lighty’s estranged wife, Veronica, and his children were also on hand. -danielle canada
