Last week, DJ Mister Cee was thrown into a media firestorm after he was caught in yet another male prostitution scandal. He announced his resignation from New York City’s Hot 97 radio station after 20 years. Admitting to transsexual sex acts to his Hot 97 boss and brother Ebro last week, Mister Cee is now opening up about his sexuality in a new video from Hot 97.

“The decision I’ve made this week to open up about my sexuality has definitely been the most difficult thing that I’ve ever had to do in my life,” Mister Cee said. “But I felt like this was the time to do it personally and professionally. I worried about how my family would be affected, how my co-workers, my friends, and even my fans would be affected by this decision, because in this Hip-Hop community, it’s not cool to be gay. It’s not cool to be bisexual.”

“I felt that if I was to actually be honest about myself, that nobody would actually want to deal with me anymore,” he added. “But I also realized that the more that I kept this secret, and kept lying, and kept trying to be deceitful to the people that I loved, I wasn’t really helping myself, or anybody else that could need help out there.”

Mister Cee also revealed that he’s partnered with the AIDS Health foundation to promote freedom in sexual orientation and safer sex practices.

“I am choosing to speak for myself and a new sexual revolution. Today, it’s about sexual freedom. You don’t have to be afraid, but you do have to be careful, and protect yourself.”

Although Mister Cee is clearly still struggling with his sexual identity, we applauded him for making the effort to be as open as possible about his sexuality and for now working to reduce HIV infection rates across the nation.
