During a freestyle on Tim Westwood’s show back in June, Compton rapper YG took a shot at Iggy Azalea — specifically at her smash single “Fancy.” YG claimed that producers of the track basically ripped off the production style of his own DJ Mustard, the hip-hop beatsmith whose distinctive work has been featured on numerous tracks by Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Ink, Rick Ross and Y.G. himself. “Fancy” was produced by The Invisible Men, a trio of hit making songwriters and producers out of London.

Mustard spoke about the controversy during his CRWN interview with journalist Elliott Wilson, and explained that Azalea had been around him long enough to know his sound well.

“At first I was like, ‘Yeah, you trippin,’” DJ Mustard says. “I know Iggy. We know her. She used to be chillin’ with me, [Ty Dolla $ign], YG. She used to be chillin’ with us. She knows the sound. She knows how hard we was working to make that sound and for you to go to somebody else or for you to do whatever you did, whatever they did and just be like, ‘Oh this is new and I don’t know why Mustard dissed…’ No. You know why.”
