In June, a photo surfaced of hip-hop icon Eminem hanging out in the studio with Kendrick Lamar and the Black Hippy crew. When the pic of Em, K. Dot, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Royce da 5’9,” and Jay Rock together in Detroit began making the rounds online, fans immediately started speculating wildly as to what the emcees could be working on together. In a recent interview with MTV, ScHoolboy Q said that it was more or less much ado about nothing.

There was no all-star recording session featuring the TDE and Shady Records crews.

“We weren’t trying to go in there all, ‘Oh let me get a verse.’ We hate when people do that to us, so we actually wanted to go in there and be cool and feel him out and see what was going on before anybody asked for a verse,” Q explained. “We just sat there, we chilled, we talked. We expressed what we liked about each other’s music, we talked about Slaughterhouse, we talked about his artists, we talked about us individually. He’s just a good dude, just chillin.'”

“I sat in there and I didn’t say nothing. I soaked up game, I didn’t want to say too much,” Q admitted. “I can’t go in there running my mouth trying to act like I know everything, [Eminem’s] a dude that done been from nothing to something. I sat there and I just soaked up game. I didn’t really say too much, I was just listening really.”

Despite many fans’ understandable disappointment in learning that nothing is currently in the works between the two camps, Q says that he’s certain eventually they will be collaborating musically.

“I’m pretty sure one of the homies gonna ask for a verse, though,” he said with a laugh.
