By the time the year ended, Dark Man X’s most talked-about musical contribution to 2012 was an impromptu (and hilarious) rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” That’s how bad a comeback can go if it isn’t handled correctly.

And there are several major artists hoping to not follow DMX’s missteps.


Here are 10 veteran artists supposedly releasing new music in the coming year. Some are solo debuts, some are coming on the heels of commercial failures or extended hiatuses; but all of them have this in common:  if they fail, they could be the final death knell for some former chart-toppers.
