Grammy weekend: 10 reasons we miss Whitney Houston

It’s been a year.

It was during last year’s Grammy weekend that the world discovered that pop icon Whitney Houston had died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The diva that had been one of the defining artists of the 1980s and 1990s was found dead in a bathtub, with autopsy reports later confirming that she’d accidentally drowned due to chronic cocaine use and heart disease.

Fans and media were reminded, upon her death, of the talent and brilliance of Whitney’s career. And one year later, it’s still tragic to recall how much she meant to music and pop culture, and how much she left unfinished and unfulfilled. Even before her tragic passing, Whitney’s troubles began derailing what was one of the most stellar careers of the last 30 years.

In the wake of her passing, the gossip headlines haven’t stopped. There were the reports linking singer/reality star Ray J to her death, the controversy surrounding her mentor, industry mogul Clive Davis, continuing his party after discovering she’d died in the very same building, and her family’s ongoing feuding in the media.
