Troubled rapper Gucci Mane has had it tough over the past few year after facing numerous criminal charges and lawsuits and recently being sentenced to six months in prison for battery. But the Atlanta rapper can now at least call himself a free man after he was released early from prison on Dec. 11.

The newly free rapper spoke with XXL shortly after his release, and like the previous time he was released from prison, vowed that this would be his final time going behind bars.

“This is the last time I think I’ll ever be in jail. I really feel that way,” said Gucci, who explained that his recent time in prison allowed him to reflect on his life. “It was a time for me to sit back and just refocus the whole way I do things, man. The times away from my fans just made me want to grind, get in the studio, go to my shows and appreciate my job and what I do now.”

On Sept. 13, Gucci was sentenced to six months in prison after he pleaded guilty to two counts of battery, two counts of reckless conduct and one count of disorderly conduct stemming from a January incident when the rapper pushed a woman out of his moving vehicle in Atlanta.

Like he said to XXL, the first thing Gucci did after his prison release was head to the studio and the rapper will soon throw his full promotional weight behind his joint album with controversial rapper V-Nasty, titled BAYTL.

“I think people are going to be surprised just how good the music sounds,” he said of the music. “A lot of people are going to be surprised.” –nicholas robinson
