Gucci Mane to mentor Chief Keef, calls Waka beef a ‘miscommunication’

Premiere For "Spring Breakers" - Red Carpet

When Atlanta hip-hop star Gucci Mane signed Chicago teen rapper, Chief Keef to his Brick Squad imprint, it raised a few eyebrows–particularly since Keef’s signing came so soon after Gucci’s highly-publicized falling-out with his former protege, Waka Flocka Flame. In an interview with XXL, Gucci talked about his plans for Brick Squad’s future. He also addressed what motivated him to sign Keef and revealed that he hopes to reconcile with Waka.

“I’m just working on my Brick Squad group album which will drop this summer. It’ll be me, PeeWee Longway, Young Thug, Dolph and of course Chief Keef,” shared Gucci Mane.

“I even got songs with Waka on there. I’m just gonna drop a collection of all the best songs we’ve been making. I dropped a mixtape for every artist on my label, so now I feel like it’s just time to put our album together and show everybody the chemistry we got together,” he added.

Gucci went on to admit that he thinks that he and Waka’s relationship is salvageable–despite the fact that Waka hasn’t shown any interest in working with him again. “There was more of a miscommunication and things got misconstrued. But we got too much of a good thing. Whatever we got to work out, we always work it out.”

As for Chief Keef, Gucci said that he hopes to be a mentor to the young rapper. Keef has seen more than his fair share of controversy after only a year in the public eye. Gucci has been in trouble quite a bit throughout his career, as well. Regardless, Gucci believes he can impart some wisdom to the younger star.

“He’s a big fan of mine and I just see a lot of potential in him. I feel like all these years I’ve been in the rap game, there’s a lot of things that I wish I could have did a different way,” Gucci said. “So I just feel like if nothing else, I just want to give him some advice so that he can just enjoy his career. Just show him that trouble is so easy to get into. It’s really more of a big brother thing. There’s a business arrangement of course but I just really like him as a person. He’s hard. He’s for real. The young people take to what’s real, what they perceive as authentic.”
